RECOMMENDED: The Mischief of the Mistletoe by Lauren Willig, part of the Pink Carnation series, is $3.99 for a limited time. This story takes place in the Carnation world, but can be read as a stand alone. If you're not familiar with Turnip, he's a good but not superbly bright dude, and he's kind of adorable.
This book won the 2011 RITA for Best Regency Romance, and readers during our RITA® Reader Challenge reviews mentioned how much they wanted to see some sexytimes for Turnip. After a strange bar conversation with Lauren Willig, we held a cover contest for the Turnip Sexytimes short story, and Away in a Manger was born. You can read Turnip's "missing scene" at Lauren's site.
Arabella Dempsey’s dear friend Jane Austen warned her against teaching. But Miss Climpson’s Select Seminary for Young Ladies seems the perfect place for Arabella to claim her independence while keeping an eye on her younger sisters nearby. Just before Christmas, she accepts a position at the quiet girls’ school in Bath, expecting to face nothing more exciting than conducting the annual Christmas recital. She hardly imagines coming face to face with French aristocrats and international spies…
Reginald “Turnip” Fitzhugh—often mistaken for the elusive spy known as the Pink Carnation—has blundered into danger before. But when he blunders into Miss Arabella Dempsey, it never occurs to him that she might be trouble. When Turnip and Arabella stumble upon a beautifully wrapped Christmas pudding with a cryptic message written in French, “Meet me at Farley Castle”, the unlikely vehicle for intrigue launches the pair on a Yuletide adventure that ranges from the Austens’ modest drawing room to the awe-inspiring estate of the Dukes of Dovedale, where the Dowager Duchess is hosting the most anticipated event of the year: an elaborate 12-day Christmas celebration. Will they find poinsettias or peril, dancing or danger? And is it possible that the fate of the British Empire rests in Arabella and Turnip’s hands, in the form of a festive Christmas pudding?

Hide your wallets - there are also three Jude Deveraux novels on sale right now at $1.99. One I've already written about, but there are two more, just in time for long hours of travel and reading time.
The Temptress is part of the Montgomery series, and is book #12 - though they can be read out of order because I read most of them that way and wasn't scarred for life. This is an American historical that takes place in the Washington territory in the late 1800s. If you like vintage Deveraux, this should make you a happy reader.
With the blazing spirit of a true Montgomery, heiress Christian Montgomery Mathison bravely defies the two men who abduct her. Forced into the primitive rain forests of the Washington Territory, she is swept into a thrilling adventure.
Amid schemes of greed and intrigue, the bold beauty resists the wooing of one captor, and uses all her whiles to entice the other, the mysterious Tynan...a dark, fatally handsome man who desires her...but who must refuse her love at all costs!

RECOMMENDED: Sweet Liar by Jude Deveraux is $1.99 right now. When I glommed every Deveraux in existence, I loved this one, though I suspect a re-read might reveal a bit how I've changed as a reader. That said, there is nothing like a 90's Deveraux book, especiall a Deveraux for $2. Sweet Liar is a contemporary/historical/suspense mix.
I started reading it one night last week... and stayed awake until 1:45 in the morning to finish it. Even with the parts that showed the age of the story, and the silly bits that are totally goofy, I adored it and kept reading and could not stop. Seriously. If someone blended catnip and crack and made a book, it would be Deveraux backlist for me.
It was her father's dying wish that Samantha Elliot search for her grandmother, who'd disappeared from Louisville when she was a baby. He was charming, too -- his zest for life was so contagious that in his presence Sam bloomed like a flower after the rain. Yet Mike could only get so far with her -- when he tried to get closer, it was like running into a brick wall.
But Mike wouldn't give up. As they probed her grandmother's past, he was slowly uncovering the joy and affection Samantha had buried long ago -- and leading them closer to the dangerous truth about a bloody spring night in 1928, and a seductive blues singer named Maxie...

Forever and Always by Jude Deveraux is also $1.99. This is book 2 in the Forever trilogy and is a contemporary paranormal mystery that continues in book 3. Readers on GR said they liked this one better than book 3, but that the romance is not a primary element to the story. Have you read this trilogy?
