This HaBO request comes from Sylvie, who is hoping to find a free romance she read, so this one may be tough:
For the life of me, I can’t remember what this book was called, but I can seemingly recall most other details.
Ack! It was free ebook on Amazon (I know, I know) that I’d classify as paranormal/fantasy romance, set in an ambiguously medieval-ish world. The gist is that the heroine, the half-demon daughter of a corrupt human queen, runs away from her abusive and secretly magically-inclined mother after she tries to force the heroine into marriage.
The mom/queen’s kingdom is very anti-magic/non-human creatures, so the heroine being half-demon is a long held secret, maintained by the heroine having her little horns agonizingly sanded off to the scalp by good ol’ Mom. So the heroine runs away and into the hero, a water demon who’s also a noble? LOTS of demon-human animosity and angst there, especially because the heroine’s mom is a right piece of work towards non-humans. They journey together, begrudgingly fall in love. (I cannot emphasize this enough, the hero is really not into loving a presumed human!)
I wanna say some orcs or ogres are evaded, but this part is fuzzy. Basically, adventures through a magic land plus a dash of hot n’ heavy near the end. They meet with another demon who has ram’s horns (Whose name is Sam?) and stay briefly at his house.
Ram Sam knows what’s up with the heroine’s heritage and tries to tell the hero, but the hero’s brother (also vehemently anti-human) shows up, disses the heroine mega hard. She takes off back for her kingdom possibly with the hero, who loves her but angst. The hero watches as the heroine is forcibly dragged into the castle, wheels start turning that something’s not right with this. Mom/Queen scrapes off the heroine’s horns again and gets her all ready to marry some human prince. The hero shows up because he realizes Mom/Queen is full evil, almost dies from Mom/Queen’s magic, is saved by the heroine, who also kills Mom/Queen.
They live happily ever after and the hero realizes that once the heroine’s horns grow in, she’s a water demon like him. Honestly, the book was only okay, but not being able to remember the title is beginning to melt my face.
Does anyone else need to know the title of this book?
