About Last Night

About Last Night by Ruthie Knox is 99c! This book was part of the 2013 DABWAHA Tournament and was nominated for a RITA® that same year, which means we have Reader Challenge grades! However, both reviews took issue with the book’s ending.

Reader Elissa gave it a B+:

I overall loved this book. While the ending had it faults, it still made me passionately want to type all-caps emails to my friends about it, and I basically ignored my family to read it, which is always a sign of an excellent read.

Reader Jen LB gave it a C:

Grading this book was tricky for me, because I did still enjoy it quite a bit. If I had graded it before the ending, I would probably have given it a B+, but with the ending I had to downgrade to a C. It’s a good read and I wouldn’t want to dissuade anyone from enjoying it, but for me personally I couldn’t grade it higher given the icky ending.

Sure, opposites attract, but in this sexy, smart, eBook original romance from RITA finalist and bestselling author Ruthie Knox, they positively combust! When a buttoned-up banker falls for a bad girl, “about last night” is just the beginning.

Cath Talarico knows a mistake when she makes it, and God knows she’s made her share. So many, in fact, that this Chicago girl knows London is her last, best shot at starting over. But bad habits are hard to break, and soon Cath finds herself back where she has vowed never to go . . . in the bed of a man who is all kinds of wrong: too rich, too classy, too uptight for a free-spirited troublemaker like her.

Nev Chamberlain feels trapped and miserable in his family’s banking empire. But beneath his pinstripes is an artist and bohemian struggling to break free and lose control. Mary Catherine—even her name turns him on—with her tattoos, her secrets, and her gamine, sex-starved body, unleashes all kinds of fantasies.

When blue blood mixes with bad blood, can a couple that is definitely wrong for each other ever be perfectly right? And with a little luck and a lot of love, can they make last night last a lifetime?

Pushing the Limits

RECOMMENDEDPushing the Limits by Katie McGarry is $3.99! This is a YA romance and was selected as a Sizzling Book Club Pick in 2012 with Sarah saying:

Pushing the Limits is powerful, emotional, and incredibly well done. And if I describe it to people, outlining the plot and the conflict, invariably they say, “This sounds like the most bleak and miserable book ever.” The characters, Echo and Noah, have lived through some truly awful experiences, but there is such joy and resilient hope in how they discover one another that helps to balance the pain and sadness they both feel. This is not an easy book, but it is worth experiencing both as a YA novel, as a romance, and as an example of truly skilled writing.

If you’re still on the fence about this, you can catch up on the Book Club chat. It also received a B+ grade during the RITA® Reader Challenge that year.

“I won’t tell anyone, Echo. I promise.” Noah tucked a curl behind my ear. It had been so long since someone touched me like he did. Why did it have to be Noah Hutchins? His dark brown eyes shifted to my covered arms. “You didn’t do that-did you? It was done to you?” No one ever asked that question. They stared. They whispered. They laughed. But they never asked.

So wrong for each other…and yet so right.

No one knows what happened the night Echo Emerson went from popular girl with jock boyfriend to gossiped-about outsider with “freaky” scars on her arms. Even Echo can’t remember the whole truth of that horrible night. All she knows is that she wants everything to go back to normal. But when Noah Hutchins, the smoking-hot, girl-using loner in the black leather jacket, explodes into her life with his tough attitude and surprising understanding, Echo’s world shifts in ways she could never have imagined. They should have nothing in common. And with the secrets they both keep, being together is pretty much impossible.Yet the crazy attraction between them refuses to go away. And Echo has to ask herself just how far they can push the limits and what she’ll risk for the one guy who might teach her how to love again.

The Marriage Pact

The Marriage Pact by Linda Lael Miller is $1.99! This is a small town romance between a woman and the man who interrupted her wedding. It also features the “off limits best friend’s sibling” trope. There seems to be some contention in Goodreads reviews about the level of detail in this book. Some thought there were too many details, which dragged down the pace. However, others loved how the author carefully crafted the story.
